1–1 therapy
For some people, individual work is a better option when a more individualised approach is needed, or when working in a group doesn't feel right for you.
If you're currently experiencing significant anxiety, depression, addiction, or living with complex patterns of dissociation, including dissociative identity disorder (DID), depersonalisation, derealisation or deep somatic dissociation, the individual setting can give us more flexibility to work at the pace and level of support you need.
Many people find the Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga practice a good place to begin. It was built by complex trauma survivors for complex trauma survivors, and pays a lot of attention to creating safety specifically for those with abuse and neglect histories. You can read more about the TCTSY practice here.
Some clients focus on practices that help them experience emotions they have found overwhelming:
anger
grief
shame
fear
humiliation
We might also explore states of embodiment that you’ve previously found unavailable:
safety
calm
connection
joy
curiosity
play
courage
strength
accomplishment
Often integrating topics in trauma psychoeducation or yoga psychology is useful, and many clients reflect on events in their lives that have been particularly impactful. Words are not always the most useful medium for sharing a trauma history. For some people, drawing, sketching or collage can provide a better way of communicating experiences that are difficult to put into words.
Not everything that needs to be shared can be spoken about.
Starting 1–1 therapy
If you'd like to explore working together, you can make an initial enquiry and book a free 45-minute conversation with me. This gives us an opportunity to talk about what you're looking for, ask questions and consider whether working together might be a good fit. One of the most important reasons I offer this is so that you can begin to assess whether I feel safe and credible to you.
You don't have to have this conversation before arranging an assessment.
If you already feel clear that you'd like to work with me, please read through the Initial Enquiry page. You can then email me directly to arrange our assessment session.
